Ingrid Bergman was an award-winning actress. Ingmar Bergman was an award-winning director. Put the two together and you got an award-winning film named Hostsonaten, known in English as Autumn Sonata.

The film, released in 1979 (it was actually Ingrid Bergman’s final theatrical release), details the relationship between a famous pianist and her neglected, almost estranged daughter. The latter confronts the former, making for a dramatic conclusion. Will they be reconciled? Watch the movie to find out.

The film was highly acclaimed for its acting and storyline, winning a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. More, it was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Ingrid Bergman got the honors) and Best original Screenplay.

Though a Swedish-language film, Autumn Sonata proved an international hit, and continues to serve as an inspiration to movie makers and other storytellers to this very day.
